Australians have been filled 'with fear and alarmism'
The consequences to be inflicted on the personal wellbeing of Australians, business viability, the national economy, and mental health are far beyond what could be described as responsible management of the situation says Sky News host Alan Jones. "The nation is swimming in debt, kids are out of school, people are locked up while all along the mental anguish of what is taking place is beyond calculation," On Monday, Premier Daniel Andrews outlined the details of his stage four lockdowns which will affect Metropolitan Melbourne for at least six weeks in a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19. Andrews ordered all non-essential workers not to leave their homes from Thursday but promised people they will not need to bulk buy food as supermarkets, grocery stores and pharmacies would stay open. COVID FACTS WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION AUSTRALIA-WIDE, 43 CRITICAL CASES 1% OF PATIENTS CRITICAL 99% OF CASES ARE MILD 221 COVID DEATHS SO FAR 440 AUSTRALIANS DIE EVERY YEAR 1,000-1,500 FLU DEATHS EACH YEAR COVID NOT IN TOP 50 DEATH CAUSES COVID REALITY CHECK LEADERS CONTINUE TO CAUSE ALARM 221 DEATHS OUT OF A POPULATION OF 26 MILLION THERE IS A BETTER WAY TO DEAL WITH COVID Professor James Allan, UQ GARRICK PROFESSOR AT LAW "Shut down businesses, the bureaucratic-political complex deems inessential; indulge in extraordinary inroads into people's civil liberties; don't trust average citizens; turn police into an army of the nanny state; lock down huge chunks of the productive economy; pay, make that overpay, all sorts of people to do nothing at all, while having no plausible politically palatable route out of the situation; and in doing all that become the biggest Government spenders of virtually all time, saddling the next generation with untold debts... This is the sort of package of policies you might unleash when faced with the 14th century's Black Death, which is estimated to have killed from a third to a half of Europe's population. The American Centre for Disease Control estimates, the infection fatality rate of coronavirus to be about 0.26%...to put that in contrast, a bad flu season kills 0.24% of people who catch it and we don't annihilate the economy over that. 161,000 or so Aussies die every year in this country, I might add, that is about 440 a day. Between 1,000 and 1,500 die of the flu. 1,200 die in car accidents. All of that explains why the press, which has been a Pravda-like supporter of lockdowns and medical bureaucracies hate Sweden. You see Sweden did not lockdown or shutdown any businesses or drive a truck through civil liberties. It gave its citizens advice, trusted them and then tried to protect the elderly and frail. To sum this up using a concept of the philosophy of the mind, this massive overreaction and love of lockdowns is bonkers and a monumental screwup... had every politician and bureaucrat had to take a 20% cut if businesses were shutdown. In my view politicians should be looking at massive pay cuts, now. Ditto civil servants. Ditto the ABC. And the pay cuts should stay until we return to normal unemployment rates and are paying off the debt. In a decade this will be looked on as one of the most colossal public policy fiascos of the century."
