The AFR reports the federal government approved $32.9 million in funding to keep Ten on the air for seven years.
This is positively OUTRAGEOUS for a number of reasons.
Paramount is the parent company of Ten. “As well as film studio Paramount Pictures, the company owns US network CBS, cable channels Nickelodeon and MTV, British broadcaster Channel 5, and Network 10 in Australia.”
This is a private business that appears to be ultimately failing due to extremely poor ratings. It is not the Australian taxpayer’s responsibility to bail out failing private media companies, particularly not foreign owned media companies.
If the company is failing, it’s down to the shareholders to deal with it.
This needs to be investigated for misappropriation of taxpayer funds.
As a follow up to the above, Australia is currently in a cost of living crisis.
Not only is this spending at this time completely reckless, I want to emphasise again that a private media company that Australians clearly don’t care about based on their reported failing viewership is absolutely not the responsibility of the taxpayer.
The consequences for misappropriation of funds in Australia can be very severe.
We really need to consider why the government is bailing out a private media company that appears to be very one-sided in their reporting, favouring the government at every turn.
This is not the ABC. This is a PRIVATE media company.
I will be contacting Senators today. I encourage everyone to do the same.
